Maths: Taimana

I am learning to sort fractions with different denominators.

I'll know I can do this when I can order fractions based on their size.

Something I learned was that the bigger the number on the bottom the smaller the size of the fraction like 1/10 is a small fraction and 1/2 is a big fraction.

Art Attack: Don Binney

I am learning to create art inspired by Don Binney.

I'll know I can do this when I have created a landscape with a foreground, middle, and background.
My bird and my background are coloured using pastels and natural colours.

Next time I will do more blending by mixing the colours.

Learner Qualities: Communicate

I am learning how to communicate.

I'll know I can do this when I can identify a variety of ways I can communicate with other.

One way I showed this is by listening to the teachers when they are talking.

Reading: Whio

I am leaning how to apply my prior knowledge to a text.

I'll know I can do this when I can think of ways I have connections to a text and I can use those connections to help decode unfamiliar words and ideas.

Something I learned was how to find things on the internet.

Writing: Information Report

I am learning to write an information report.

I'll know I can do this when I can plan and write an information reports with a title, topic sentence, and a group of facts about a subject.

Something I found hard was knowing how to finish it. Here is my report:

Whio

Classification
The whio is a bird and it is a blue duck. A blue duck is a herbivore. A blue duck is 54cm long  and has 2 legs.

Description
Hatchlings have green backs when they are born. A male blue duck weights 1000g and a female weighs 800g. The hatchlings have their green beaks until they are a month old. A blue duck has 2 eyes, a beak and 2 ears.

Food and habitat
Blue ducks eat fruit, berries and insects. Bread is bad for ducks but peas are good for ducks. Blue ducks live in New Zealand. Usually you can find  blue duck in a wetland.
Behaviour
A whio usually hides under rocks and finds snails and crabs. Blue ducks are powerful swimmers. Blue ducks nest in hollow nests.

Conclusion

Blue ducks are a rare species of duck. The male sounds like an alarm call.

Peace Week 2017

I have been learning about Peace Week.
Peace Week is an annual tradition organised by The Peace Foundation every year. You can learn more about The Peace Foundation by following this LINK.

As a way to learn about Peace Week I did three different Peace Week activities.

With Miss Brennan we created a poster to help promote peace and Peace Week.
With Mrs Baker we made hand print doves and wrote messages of peace on them.
With Mr Horn we looked at the symbols of peace such as the dove and created origami doves.

Here is an example of one of my activities

Student Led Conference

My highlight at my student led conference was I got to show my dad what we have been doing in the year 4 hub because he did not know everything that the year 4 hub does.

I am most proud of sharing my writing because my dad said that I had amazing handwriting.

I think my parents enjoyed my learning because they like it when I showed them what we were leaning about.

Next time I would like to talk more slowly.

Reading

My learning  goal this term is to order and sequence the ideas in a text.

I can do this by putting ideas from the text in order they happened in.

This photo shows my learning.

Procedural Writing

WALHT write a procedure.

Something I learned about writing a procedure is how to make good instructions by having everything you need in a list.

Something I would like to do better is use more verbs  in my writing.

Here is  my learning.
